Matunga through sounds and visuals

Close Minimize

Shishuvan, located in Matunga (Mumbai), is a school that gives utmost importance to experiential learning. The Project Day is an annual event where the students are given an opportunity to use their imagination, probably step out of the four walls of their classroom, and learn through first-hand experience. Experts in various fields are invited to guide the students and open their minds to newer avenues.

This year the topic was “Matunga”. We were invited to help the 9th and the 10th Grade students look at Matunga through Sounds and Visuals. We got the students in action, out on the streets, recording sounds that were unique to the place; made an awesome groove out of the recordings, and had the students perform live on the keyboard with it.

We also had the bunch roam around Matunga taking videos and clicking pictures, capturing the essence of the place. We helped students make a collage of the videos and images and trained two students to bow their violins to the collage.

Over and above all of this, we got the enthusiastic group to write lyrics, compose, strum, play, and sing an original song on what Matunga is to them. A RAGING hit!!

All of this in a span of just 10 days!
